Experience
Silverims has been fixing wheels since 2009. Initially a mobile company we have recently expanded into our premises. This allows us to offer an even better service to our customers. We now have more technology, which allows us to offer diamond cutting as well as making wheels true, powder coating and painting.
How Are Alloy Wheels Repaired?
It takes us 3 days to make your alloy wheels look as good as new. Why does it take this long and how does the process work?
All wheels are chemically stripped. This removes the old paint coating and takes the alloy back to bare metal.
The next step is to vapour blast the alloys. This ensures they are completely clean and adds a slightly roughened surface that is ready to take the paint layer.
They now need to go into our industrial oven to make sure they’re completely dry and degassed.
Time for a primer layer! We powder coat with an even primer layer.
Back to the oven to ensure the primer is dry.
Next layer is the powdercoat or paint, depending on what you’d like on your wheels.
Yes you’ve guessed it, back to the oven again!
If your wheels are diamond cut this is when this happens, the wheels have to be completely cold before we work on them to ensure the cuts are clean and even.
The final layer of powder coat lacquer is applied to ensure a brilliant finish.
As you can see it’s a long and complicated process, so you can see why it takes time. It makes a full set of wheels from £275 really good value for money.
As we have to remove your wheels and tyres it’s a good idea to check the wheel nuts are tight after a few days of use. We will obviously tighten everything up when we put the wheels back on, but having been removed it’s good practice to double check everything is secure.
